ABOUT SOUND OFF DAY & WSO FEST 2020

In our fourth year, Women Sound Off is excited to open our extensive festival platform to one Bay Area-based organization or community member who will curate a panel for the Sound Off Day main stage on Saturday, April 4, 2020 from 9AM - 7PM (during our festival weekend).

With a full day of discussions and peer learning, Sound Off Day is a space where entrepreneurship and creativity collide. You’ll have the opportunity to spark innovative conversation about your topic and share the mission of your organization with 250+ women who will come prepared to learn, network and explore themselves.

WSO COMMUNITY PANEL 2020 FINALISTS

Beyond Imposter Syndrome: Mental Health and Identity At Work

Submitted By: Elizabeth Ohito, LCSW (@wellness.in.color)

This  panel will discuss how professional women of color struggle with and overcome the phenomena of imposter syndrome in workplaces where few people reflect their identity. This panel is a “fishbowl” style session where audience members interact with psychotherapists as they share information on how imposter syndrome begins and is recreated in WOCs professional lives. Tools and insights will be shared to empower WOCs to be whole, embodied and confident at work.

Space is the Place: Cooperative Ecosystems & Creative Economies

Submitted By: Shreya Shankar & Sacred Rivers Institute

Through visionary organizing, this dynamic panel of futurists explores liberation and culture-keeping in Oakland. Our panelists root culture-keepers by building non-extractive capital for historically marginalized communities. During this time of violent displacement, spaces for community, cooperation, and culture to connect are critical. In this panel, powerful minds meet to share best practices and growing edges in cultivating solidarity economies in the creative community.

It's Not You, It's Capitalism: Finding Financial Self Esteem In a Hopeless Place

Submitted By: Jessie Susannah Karnatz (Money Witch)

First of all, it's not you, it's Capitalism. And yet, we all have to pay another month of rent. Personal financial stability is necessary for us to be free to operate as changemakers in this world. We are bright creative holy vessels but our financial worlds can leave us feeling disempowered, angry, and shameful. What can we do to simultaneously hold the impact of systemic oppression on our personal finances while healing our own relationship to money? This panel brings a group of creative entrepreneurs and financial educators together to discuss how to build our financial self esteem as a tool of empowerment and resistance.

Goddess Talk

Submitted By: Nia Assata (Lakemerrittgoddess)

This Panel will consist of women who live the "Life Of An Artist". We’ll talk about staying in YOUR lane, creating income strategies without a 9-5, networking, the importance of goal setting, and believing in yourself. Panelists will share their real life stories and experiences as artists. Goddess Talk will center women who come from different backgrounds but share similar dreams and lifestyles. The goal is to leave Gods and Goddesses inspired to go after the life they truly want.

PANEL GOAL

The goal of the community panel is to provide a Bay Area-based individual(s)/organization with the opportunity to spread their mission through a curated panel. The panel itself must push current ways of thinking, be solution oriented and have actionable takeaways.

AFTER THE WIN

The winning individual(s)/organization will work with the WSO team to curate their panel and finalize any outstanding details.

The winning organization must have enough bandwidth to collaborate in person with the WSO team in late February and early March for the success of their panel. Must attend 2 mandatory work sessions.
